WINNING THE LOS ANGELES BOOK FESTIVAL AWARD

Updated: Sep 7, 2022

Los Angeles. Hmmm . . . movie industry, bright lights, famous actors, wannabes and scriptwriters . . . There's something about LA that made this award particularly special. And c'mon, no author writes a book without thinking about how it might look as a movie and who might play those parts: Especially romance (Ryan Gosling? Please, pretty please).

Suffice to say, winning the Los Angeles book award felt a bit like an Olympic gold medal.

The book was judged by a panel of publishing industry experts (and boy would I like to meet the Los Angeles versions of those people!) and they looked at the following:

  1. General excellence and the author's passion for telling a good story.

  2. The potential of the work to gain a wider audience in the worldwide market.

If you watch the video below, you'll see that the book that came second after mine had a fascinating title: "Here we go Loop de Loop". I was so interested in that as a romance title that I decided to take a look. Turns out the guy who wrote it, William Jack Sibley, has won numerous Lambda awards, had articles published in loads of magazines and has written an off-broadway play!

I can't quite believe The Refusal won against writers of this calibre. Excuse me whilst I go and lie down for a couple of seconds.

Lots of love,

Eve
